Five Art Institutes schools send talented designers to New York City

This is the ultimate test—designing and showing a collection in front of peers and potential employers—and one that’s shared by all Art Institutes Fashion Design students as they prepare to graduate. It’s a key part of the curriculum, as they prepare for their careers and a lifetime of creative challenges.

But for 13 students and alumni, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week provides an opportunity to show their 2014 collections on a premier runway.

Their journey began by submitting sketches, inspiration boards, and a minimum of two garments to industry experts, including fashion designers John Bartlett, Douglas Hannant and Bonnie Young; Cliodna Egan and Christina Neault, Student Selection Committee Judges.

In the months that followed, faculty and staff worked with and mentored them on their collections, as finished garments were submitted at regular intervals for lively discussion.

This kind of opportunity can be a career-defining moment for an up-and-coming designer. In the fall of 2013, 10 students and grads debuted their collections at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, continuing their pursuit of a lifetime of creativity and success.
